Santa Cruz Waldorf School Postcard Ad

I’m so excited that our beloved Santa Cruz Waldorf School chose an image of mine for their latest advertisement.

I’m especially smitten because it is of my big guy. I’ll never forget this moment…he found a worm in the compost pile and asked me to photograph the two of them together. I love the look in his eyes…

my updated website

At long last, I’ve updated my website!

If I’ve photographed you in any capacity within the last year or two, there is a good chance that you will find yourself gracing it somewhere. I’m especially excited about the new commercial portfolio.

An enormous Thank You to everyone who has encouraged me as I started down this path…to my amazing clients for allowing me the privilege of photographing you and your children; to my friends for telling me over and over that I was cut out for this photography thing; and to my family…for seeing the same dream that I saw, welcoming the sacrifice that it entailed, and reminding me over and over that it’s worth it.

I’m grateful.

More updates are on the way…some amazing weddings and shoots are in store this year!

I wish you all a wonderful week. We have lots of rain in the forecast here in Santa Cruz…and Pat just whipped up a huge pot of soup. We’ll be staying warm and dry…and dreaming of spring.

another one gone…

My heart is breaking, one tooth at a time…

These tiny little steps of growth and confidence are so amazing to watch.

Also…as of today, my maternity leave is officially over. Within the next few weeks I will be shooting engagement and portrait sessions, preparing for some awesome weddings this summer, and finishing up some albums. It is nice and very exciting to officially be back.

It is time…

No, not to give birth…that’s not for another 3 months.

It’s time for an updated website. It’s no secret that my website has been neglected lately and is in dire need of a fresh look and more recent images. I’ve been absent from this blog because I’m working diligently on this little project and the final product is on its way. Nothing too drastic, just some new images and a little tweaking to keep everyone (including myself) interested. The site will also feature my commercial portfolio, which I’m really excited about. I’ll keep you posted on the timeline. Until then, here is a new addition to the Portrait gallery…

Have a wonderful day!

slug in my computer and other good news…

Yes, I know that I’ve been MIA lately. But I really do have a couple of good, well at least interesting excuses…

My first excuse is that I’ve been without my primary computer for almost one month because a slug (yes, as in the slimy things from the garden) crawled into the computer and caused all sorts of mischief. Huge shout out to the awesome folks at Apple who repaired it under warranty even though they didn’t have to. The quote from the customer service rep? “We’d rather retain you as a customer than have you pay for this repair”.  As a business owner, I couldn’t have been more thrilled to hear this. I believe in going the extra mile for customers and clients, but to see it in action is so reassuring. Needless to say, Apple has me as a customer for life now!

The second excuse/piece of news is that I’m pregnant! Yep, in mid September, I’ll have something that resembles this as my very own…

We’re so excited and admittedly, a little nervous as well. One child seems so civilized, so easy. Now life is going to change…for the better of course, but it will change nonetheless.

Soooo, this leads me to an announcement:

Because baby is due in September, I will be on maternity leave from September through December…yeah, as in taking these four months off completely! I will continue to answer e-mails, process and ship orders, and book weddings and portrait sessions for 2011, but I will not be conducting shoots during these months. I’m nervous, as fall is my busiest time of year, but I realize that we will all need the time together and it goes by so fast…I want to suck it all up and relish every sleepless night without worrying about how I’m going to make it to the next day’s shoot!

So, whether you’re a new or returning client and you’d like to have portraits taken of your family before the year ends, now is the time to book! I’m scheduling portrait sessions from now through July and for some of August, and I fully expect my calendar to fill up completely within the next month or so. I know that many of you don’t think about holiday cards until around September, but summer is always a gorgeous time of year to get an outdoor session in. Imagine how good it will feel to get the family portraits finished by fall…a serious head start on your holiday to-do list. Yuck, did I mention the holidays? Sorry, I’m in summer mode too, just sayin’.

Anyhow, thanks so much for checking in. I have lots to blog and will do my best to keep the posts coming. I’m so grateful for you, my lovely blog readers. You are indeed some of the many treasures in this little life of mine…

Back at work

I made it home and today is my first official day back at work. It feels good to attack my “to do” piles (yes, I’ve made “piles” plural on purpose…there is way too much to fit neatly into one pile, I’m afraid). But I’m in catch up mode, nonetheless. I know that I’ve been slow to fulfill orders and answer e-mails, but know that I haven’t forgotten about any of you and will be diligently working to get myself back up to speed this week. I am so grateful to all of you for the many e-mails and words of support and for your amazing patience. I send you all much Love.

Thank you.

This is one of my faves from a shoot back in November. He missed the beach while we were gone.

Orders, orders…

Between wrapping up shoots and getting orders out, I’ve been running around like crazy and have been really lame about blogging. I promise to share what I’ve been working on soon! In the meantime, I did want to share that I will be taking an extra long (and very much needed) winter break from December 20th through January 9th.  I will be out of the studio for this entire time and although I will have internet access, I will be practicing the art of unplugging and will not be checking my e-mail daily. I can guarantee order deliveries by Christmas if they are placed by December 15th. Any orders placed after December 20th will not be fulfilled until the new year.

In other news, I was looking through some personal images for our holiday cards this year and stumbled across a bunch of shots that Pat took and never even told me about! I was struck by how beautiful so many of these images are. He second-shot for me several times this year and I’ve been so blown away by what an amazing eye he has. He started the year off carrying around my old Rebel xt and then moved to a 30D…I think he just might be ready for another upgrade, what do you think? Here are a couple that melted me…

I should keep him around, don’t you think??

Published in C Magazine!

Guess what? One of my portraits of my lovely and talented friend Amy Williams was published  in the November issue of C  magazine, the fabulous California Style magazine. I spied the magazine in the airport today while waiting for a flight and was so tickled to see my image inside that, well…I bought five copies. Don’t laugh, this is my first time being published. Amy was featured in the “Inside” section, where she shares her favorite local eateries, boutiques, and other spots in the Los Gatos area. Thanks Amy for being so fabulous and thanks to the talented Melissa of Ruby Press for this opportunity. If you happen to see this month’s issue of C magazine (with the ever stunning Winona Ryder on the cover), be sure to grab it and read about Amy’s favorite things.

slipping away…

Away I go for a few days to enjoy some late summer sunsets, trail runs, and river wading. I know I’m overdue because I’m actually debating on whether or not I should bring my camera along. I’m leaning toward leaving her behind. She has been so good to me, after all…and just may appreciate a break as well.

I’ll be back in action on Monday, August 10th and will be answering all e-mails and voice mails then. Thanks in advance for your patience and understanding.

With Much Love,
